  1. Hello everyone my name is Samuel, but you can call me Sam or Sammy. My expectations and goals for my first semester is to adjust to my new life style( the Brooklyn College life style), achieve As for all my classes(all my 5 classes), and make new friends that will help me learn and enjoy my college years. I know that this will not be an easy task to accomplish because will have to work extra hard and expand my mind to learn more about my life, my world. Also, unlike other students who are lucky to live within 30 minutes from the campus, I live good 1:40 hours away, this commute everyday will only add more challenges to my educational experience. So far my college experience has gave me a headache, I guess that’s something we all have to get use to, but all jokes aside I have a great feeling that I’m really going enjoy Brooklyn College.

  2. My name is Cendy. I am so excited to be starting at Brooklyn College. I really love it here already. I am feeling a little anxious about all the work I have ahead but I know I will be able to get through it. I want to do my absolute best here. I hope I get adjusted to this new lifestyle that I have now. I commute everyday from Long Island. My commute is about an hour and thirty minutes. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for commuting everyday but I don't mind it. I have been getting some reading done while I'm on the train. It's nice and quiet sometimes so it kind of benefits me in a way. I also hope to make many new friends and to make lots of great memories here. I want to get involved with lots of activities and clubs on campus too. I really am enjoying my experience at Brooklyn College so far and I know I will enjoy the rest of my years here.

  3. What are some expectations and goals that you have for this first semester? Describe your feelings about your upcoming college experience, or your college experience thus far.

Hi everyone, some expectations I have for this semester are to succeed in my first semester at Brooklyn College and really get into the rhythm of being a college student. I want to try and do well in all my classes of course but I also want to do my best and balance my school work and get organized so its not hectic and so I have time to breathe when doing work. So far my college experience has been exciting. I'm eager to start learning about all new topics and subjects that we didn't have the option for in High School. I have always enjoyed English as a subject but essays were never really my strong area so I'm looking forward to being taught or assisted by a professor in how to put together a proper essay. I also hope to enjoy my business class that is luckily my only class on Friday morning. See you all Wednesday, Alen.

  4. Hi, this is Vince. During this semester I expect to become more acquainted with all the people and places on campus and be more familiar with the functions of college life. I'll spend the first few weeks getting on top of all my work and keep from getting behind on my studies. I'll also have to figure out getting my textbooks for my classes, I only have one so far. I don't think any of my classes will give me much trouble, especially not english or math, but I understand the work load for college is far different from high school so I'll be careful not to slack off. It's rather intimidating knowing the decisions I make these next four years will shape the rest of my adult life. My personal approach to handling this pressure is to stay confident and know that I can't possibly screw up too badly. This assignment wasn't too bad. I hope the rest of them are like this.

  5. Hey everyone!
I'm Latricia and I moved to New York just 3 weeeks ago from Trinidad, an island in the Caribbean. Thus, I have twice the excitement on my plate.
In addition to anticipating my new life as a college student, I'm also looking forward to my first winter. Though I hear it can get biting cold,I am still not deterred because I am bubbling with excitement at finally getting the chance to see snow with my own eyes instead of on TV!
Similarly, Brooklyn College has a part to play in high level of anxiety. In addition to meeting new friends, I hope to gain a greater understanding of responsibilty and time management as I am away from my parent's watchful eyes for the first time. I anticipate staying focused and well prepared for each class, as well as having fun when I can.
As much as I regeret that Brooklyn College does not have any dorms, the students in my theatre class are very fun, which makes up for the lack of friendliness prominent on campus. It seems as if people just come and go because they are afraid of taking the initiative to approach others and make friends. I too, despite my desire to build friendships, am guilty of keeping to myself.
Nonetheless, I hope that we can grow close as a class this semester and even hang out at times, especially since we have to endure three classes together!
    I didn't even realize I was writing so much!...sorry:)

  6. Hi my name is Sarah Gothelf, most people call me Sarah G. To be honest I wasn’t that thrilled about starting college. I personally didn’t feel like I was ready for it, at heart I still feel like a little kid. I do realize though this is my chance to learn and grow, and to have not attended college would have been a huge mistake. I have quite a few goals for this upcoming semester. I plan to become more acquainted with the school, my surrounding pears and professors. I hope to grow and to learn to like the college experience and eventually I want to love coming to class every day. I also hope to improve my over all knowledge and writing skills because I long to one day become a writer. Everyday and every new experience gives me inspiration and new thoughts so I pray that college broadens my horizons and makes me a more well rounded person.

  7. Hey everyone, my name is Fatema Osman.I have many goals and expectations for my first semester at brooklyn college.First of all, I would like to become successful in all my 5 classes. Over the past two days, i noticed the huge difference between my classes in high school and my new college classes. This realization broght me fear. I hope to overcome this fear and adjust to my new learning enviorment. Aside from academics, i would like to meet many different people and make plenty of friends as well.I hope I can deal with the pressures of college along with my outside life.Outside of college,I have many special interests ,such as biking and swimming, that im not too enthusiastic about cutting back on them. I guess i could work them into my scheduale, but Im going to have to face the fact that I'll now have much less liesure time.

  8. Hi my name is Liya. My biggest goal this semester is to achieve a 4.0 GPA in order to study abroad in Israel for a semester or maybe a year. Maybe thats too big of a goal but I'll definitly do everything in my power to achieve it. So far I could say Im enjoying college life. I do find it a tad bit overwhelming at times with all the papers having to be due, reading having to be done and midterms and finals right around the corner. I also realized the biggest difference between college and highschool is that college is a lot more demanding in that learning begins the first day not the second or third week. Overall Im looking foward to my years at Brooklyn College. Im excited about meeting new people, doing new things and enduring new challenges.

  9. I'm Michael Cohen. This semester, I hope to get a good feel of what my next four years at Brooklyn College will be like. I plan on working hard as I can toward getting good grades. We're only a couple of days into school, so I'm not entirely sure how difficult everything will be, but I'm confident I'll be able to achieve success in my studies.

  10. Hey my name is makaya.....I kind of have the same feelings as you sarah g, college has come so fast and idk if I'm ready for it. Actually, Brooklyn College was more of a last minute/last choice kind of thing for me. But I plan to make as much of this semester as possible, get as close to a 4.0 as I can and get involved. I do enjoy being part of clubs and school communities so I really look forward to that. I also look forward to making some new friends. I realize that Brooklyn College is a commuter school so this is kind of hard, but I still hope this happends. Nice meeting you all and I'm looking forward to fun and interesting times in class!!

  11. Hi my name is Adam and my main goal is the same as most other students in colleges anywhere, to earn good grades. However I do have another goal for this semester. Ever since the time when I was a little boy and I picked up THE BFG by Roald Dahl I have loved books. Since that day I have dreamed of one day writing a novel. Due to my less than stellar writing skills I am afraid this aspiration is currently out of reach. So my secondary goal for this semester is to improve my writing skills to the point where my dream is no longer a a far-fetched fantasy. As for my feelings regarding my upcoming college experience I'm a little disappointed that by attending Brooklyn I'm going to miss out on experiences available at other schools, mostly dorming. However I do plan on making the most out of my time here in BC and look forward to what will hopefully be a fantastic year.

  12. Hi, my name is Elizabeth Velez. I wasn't too happy about attending Brooklyn College a couple of days ago but it's actually turning out pretty well. My goals for this semester are to become acquainted with the campus, make as many friends as possible and adjust to the loads of reading. I will also share this goal with you guys, I secretly dream of keeping a 4.0 througout my four years of college (let's see how that turns out). Most importantly I'm excited to see how college adjusts the path that my life takes. I'm also anxious to witness my growth as an "adult" within the next four or six or however many years it takes to finish college.

I'm ready for a fun semester of English!!! (-_-)

  13. Ayo! My name is Isabelle Jagninski. I don't have any expectations for the coming semester really, I am really excited to be apart of a new learning environment. I really love learning but usual thrive a lot better through experiential learning but I look to the coming semester with less anxiety and more hopefulness that I can integrate myself into the Brooklyn College academic and social environment. I am feeling sort of nervous but I'm trying to just open myself up to as many people and experiences as possible. Mostly, I want to take this time to organize my life and learning strategy to be as powerful of a person and student as I can be. In terms of English or "Composition" I am stoked to have a course devoted to writing and reading so that I can get re-acquainted with creative writing as well as standard essays. I must admit that I really dislike revisions but appreciate the opportunity to work to perfect my writing.

  14. Hi, my name is Julia Zhou. During my first semester in Brooklyn College, I hope to look forward to making new friends and learning more about the business world since I am majoring in accounting. My goal is to do my best and put in as much effort as possible into all my classes. I hope to do well in college. I was anxious at first when I first entered the school because I was a bit intimidated by the social environment but I hope to slowly adapt into it. Although, it has been only the second day of college, I enjoy the experience here already. The campus there is beautiful and the professors are very helpful, kind, and easygoing. I am satisfied with my schedule and my classes. I've met many new acquaintances and friends already who are incoming freshmens who are experiencing the same things as I am which gives me more comfort entering college. Hopefully, I'll be able to live up to my expectations at Brooklyn College. =)

  15. Hey my name is Nick Fasano. I have many expectations for my first semester. I expect that the school work here will be much harder than in high school where passing was not a challenge. I expect that I will meet many new people of all walks of life.I expect that my classes and professors will challenge me and that I will have to stay on top of my work and really make an effort to succeed in this school.
Although some of these expectations will make me try harder in the coming months they will help me focus on the future.
I think that my college experience will effect my views on many things that I had preconcieved notions about. Already my views of college have changed from what from what I always thought college would be like.
Hopefully I will enjoy my college experience and get alot out of it.

  16. Hello, my name is Kevin. For the length of the summer, I looked towards going to school not so much with the expected feelings of anticipation and excitement, but with a sense of mild despondence. I believe this feeling was best associated with three primary concerns, the first of which being that this time stands to be the first in my life I am living alone. I was worried that dying of boredom would become not only a possibility, but a likelihood. Secondly, I came to a realization that I never developed a longing to met people; I refused to go out of my way for awkward introductions and seemingly forced conversation: a characteristic that could potentially increase the chances of fatal boredom. Lastly, I realized I had made it through high school putting forth a minimal effort, and seriously doubted this would serve as adequate in the college setting. However, the despondent persona vanished quickly upon attending the first day. I saw no one who appeared to share the same doubts and worries as I did, and thus, they became more and more ridiculous. The thoughts boredom and potential loneliness seemed unusual and I became much less worried about meeting people. The only concern left is that which regards my lack of effort. So, my only goal for this semester (at the moment), is to rid myself of laziness.

  17. Hello, my name is Cristian Vergara. Some of the expectations I have for this first semester are more assignments and a dent in my wallet. To be more specific, I expect a lot of reading and studying of textbooks. This goes hand in hand with the dent in my wallet, these textbooks are far from cheap and most classes require one for the semester. I also expect to meet some new people in some of my classes, it may be helpful to have a friend in the class i can ask questions or for opinions out of class. I have already started the semester behind due to a sickness I attained at the beginning of the semester so I expect late nights catching up. Aside from these bumps in the road i will try to keep things turned in on time and hopefully begin a nice steady pace before the semester is over.

  18. well, now that my internet is back up and running i can finally post my responses! well i'm incredibly excited about college, while it can seem a bit daunting at first i am just so excited to get away from my high school ans all the immature people and all the foolishness that was my high school experience. my goal this semester is to find a good balance between my classes here at brooklyn college and my interpreting courses. luckily my current module is an english class that i absolutely love because we review the basics that i completely forgot. i think that this will help me in writing my essays for my classes. it also gives me a chance to branch out with the types of people that i encounter and befriend.
